Currently DGMC is located in Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt – a peaceful area 30kms from Wellington where monks, devotees and visitors can practice meditation in a beautiful serene environment.

Services:

All religious activities and services to the communities are conducted out of compassion by the resident monks. It is also a place for those who intend to practice meditation, observance of precepts on full moon days, learning the Dhamma in both Sinhala and English and make merits by practising generous offerings. Annual activities conducted by the DGMC:

New Year – (Conventional Calendar) 1st January:
A special Puja and pirith (paritta) chanting ceremony are conducted to invoke blessings for all Buddhist devotees and all visitors to the temple at the auspicious time of the New Year.

Sinhala and Hindu New Year – (Zola Calendar) April:
The monastery plans to perform all Sri Lankan customs at auspicious times and invoke blessings to devotees of all nationalities in New Zealand by resident monks

Vesak Celebrations – May (full moon day)
All day programme including observing Sil (eight precepts), meditation, dhamma talks and discussion followed by a colourful Vesak lantern display in the evening. This takes place on the Saturday which is closest to the Vesak full moon day.

Poson – June (full moon day)
Special Sil observance and meditation programme followed by a special Atavisi Puja. This takes place on the Saturday which is closest to the Poson full moon day.

Vassana ending Ceremony (Kathina) – October/November
Special Pirith (paritta) chanting ceremony followed by the Kathina ceremony (offering of the Katina robe) on the following day. This takes place on a weekend between the full moon day of October and November.
